Hawkins County is located in Northeast Tennessee, extending down from the Virginia state line. The county is divided into two almost equal sections by the Holston River, which traverses the county's entire length. One of the largest counties in the state, the 480 square miles of Hawkins County ranges from relatively flat valleys dotted with farms and pasture land to the high mountain ridges of the Appalachians.
Hawkins County has an excellent labor force trained in all types of industrial skills including Tool & Die, Computer Programming, Engineering, Accounting, Production & Quality Control, Industrial Maintenance Operations, Machine Operating, Welding, Sales, Personnel, Clerical, Industrial Management, Transportation, and many others.

Vocational-Technical training is offered at the Tennessee Technology Centers at Phipps Bend, Morristown and at the Northeast State Technical Institute in neighboring Sullivan County.

The Vocational Department of both Cherokee and Volunteer High Schools offer courses in electricity, electronics, graphic arts, welding, auto mechanics, building trades, drawing, etc. The Tennessee technology center in Morristown and a new 26,000 sq. ft. facility at the Phipps Bend Industrial District, with classes in Welding, Basic Skills, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Shop, Business Systems Technology, Computer Operations Technology and Truck Driver Training.
